Houff Transfer has a weight loss incentive for employees and their spouses. Houff recognizes the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and how weight loss can improve the quality of life for employees and their families. To encourage employees, Houff pays them and their spouses $15 a pound to loose weight. The Daily News Record in Harrisonburg Va published an article on this program. Houff Transfer, Inc. receives 2012 Governor's Transportation Safety Award for Employer Safety

The Governor's Transportation Safety Awards were established in 1993 and sponsored by the Virginia Board of Transportation Safety, which is comprised of citizens appointed by the Governor of Virginia.
This awards program recognizes individuals and/or organizations that have made extraordinary contributions to transportation safety in Virginia. The awards recognize exemplary accomplishments in the public, private and nonprofit sectors by individuals, state and local governments, federal agencies, the military, and businesses and organizations that promote transportation safety.
The diligent work of those involved in transportation safety issues and the countless volunteers who make a difference by improving the safety in the Commonwealth are impressive. This awards program demonstrates the appreciation for those committed to transportation safety and highlights the achievements of deserving Virginians. To be nominated for one of these awards is a top achievement and speaks highly of your work. To win one of these awards is indeed a true honor.

Truckload Carriers Association awards Houff Transfer National Fleet Safety Award

In March 2012, The Truckload Carriers Association awarded Houff Transfer Second Place in division, an award for Excellence in Safety. This award is based on the Department of Transportation's reportable crashes. Houff Transfer appreciates being recognized for this prestigious award in Safety from the Truckload Carriers Association and thanks all employees who work together to make this award possible!

Baltimore Terminal Opens New Driver's Lounge

Houff knows its drivers need a clean and comfrotable place to rest and relax between runs. In response, a new building has been opened at the Baltimore terminal. This state of the art facility offers drivers a large lounge with comfrotable seating and satelitte TV. There are also three private restrooms with showers.

Suffolk Terminal Opens
(May 2010)
Houff Transfer’s newest terminal – including a 26,000-square-foot-warehouse – has opened for business in Suffolk, Va. Besides providing a stellar location for a trucking company, the new terminal allows for warehousing and cross docking. The company serves all local ports in Hampton Roads.
Safety Director Alan Caviness Named VTA Safety Professional of the Year

The Virginia Trucking Association has named Houff Transfer Safety Director Alan Caviness its 2010 Virginia Truck Safety Professional of the Year. Caviness, of Fishersville, has been involved in the motor carrier industry for 19 years and worked for Houff Transfer for the past 7 years.
Under Caviness’s safety leadership, Houff Transfer employees have reduced their workers’ compensation claims by 83 percent over the past 5 years and their accident claims have dropped in six of the past seven years. Alan was also instrumental in spearheading a “Move Over” law public education campaign in partnership with the Virginia State Police and several other trucking fleets. He has been active in the Virginia Trucking Association Safety Management Council for 13 years serving as chairman of numerous committees and also as chairman of the council.

Congratulations to Truck Winner Stanley Freemantle

Congratulations to all Houff Transfer Inc company drivers and shop personnel who went an entire 12 months without a lost-time injury. Because of this awesome feat, the company gave away a new 2009 Ford F150 at the company picnic in August. The winner: Stanley Freemantle of Verona.
Since stating the truck award program in 2005, Houff has given away two trucks. What employee will be next to win?
HTI Wins Governor’s Safety Award

The Virginia Board of Transportation presented Houff Transfer with its Governor’s Award for Motor Carrier Safety. The award usually goes to a law enforcement agency and Houff Transfer is the first motor carrier to win the award. The company was honored for its “Safety Starts Here” campaign which it began in 2005 by placing decals along the door handles of all their trucks. This program was expanded to include decals on every door at every HTI facility to ensure Houff drivers understand that safety starts with them.

HTI wins Grand Trophy for Fleet Safety in Virginia

Houff Transfer, Inc. of Weyers Cave, Va. was presented the 2008 Grand Trophy for Fleet Safety in Virginia, which is awarded to the company judged to have had the state's most effective motor carrier safety program during 2007. Houff Transfer won the award in their division with an accident frequency rate of 0.4. In 2007 their Virginia-based drivers worked a total of 315,000 hours with no fatalities and no lost time injuries.

Million Mile Awards are presented to Houff Transfer driver who have driven 1,000,000 consecutive miles without a preventable truck crash. That's equivalent to driving to the moon and back...twice.
At our Feb. 8 Safety Banquet, we recognized the following drivers' outstanding safety records by presenting them with a million-mile Houff jacket, a plaque and a diecast Houff truck with their accomplishment etched on the side.

Congratulations to Truck winner Robert Yopp

Congratulations to all Houff Transfer Inc company drivers and shop personnel who went the entire year of 2005 without a lost-time injury. Because of this awesome feat, the company gave away a new 2006 GMC 4x4 pickup truck at the Safety Banquet in February. The winner: Robert Yopp. Robert, who stated he had never won or been given anything in his life received two blessings within the same week. His second was having his son return safely from a tour of duty in Iraq . Robert lives in Covington . If you are ever in the area and want to see the truck, check out the Covington drop lot.
Houff Transfer joins Habitat for Humanity in Community Effort

The buzz saw's a buzzing. The hammer's a hammering. A home is being built. Houff Transfer, Inc employees, in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity and other organizations have spearheaded the building of a home in Staunton , Virginia for a needy family. Nineteen Houff employees met June 17th and set the four outside walls. They also assisted in building a back porch next door for a neighbor who sold the land to Habitat for Humanity the build the home on.
The next work day for Houff employees is scheduled for August 26, 2006 . All employees are welcome to assist in this much appreciated and rewarding venture. For more information contact Maria Botkin at the Weyers Cave office.
