Houff Transfer added several Freightliner Columbia day cab trucks to the fleet. These trucks have Detroit Diesel engines that the highly experienced and knowledgeable mechanics in our shop reconditioned and specially built for use in these glider models.
Houff Transfer increased all driver’s pay on July 1, 2019. Houff employs the finest professional truck drivers and rewards them for the excellent job they do. Regional road drivers now receive addition mileage pay for each year worked for the first five years.
In October and November 2018, Houff received a shipment of new 2019 International LT’s for our Local Mileage Drivers. All going in to service immediately. Also new 2019 Freightliner Cascadia’s are beginning to arrive; these will be going into service soon for our Regional Road Drivers.
Regional Mileage drivers stay out through the week, and then come home on Friday or Saturday for 48 hours every weekend. We service the Mid-Atlantic area mainly from North Carolina to Pennsylvania (no NYC). Drivers do pickup and delivery, drop and hook, and terminal-to-terminal runs. Drivers have assigned conventional tractors with APU’s that are serviced frequently. Regional OTR drivers will earn $70,000-$75,000 a year, and can make additional money with safety bonuses. A minimum of two years of recent driving experience is required, and well qualified drivers will have even more driving experience. Hazmat endorsement is required with in 60 days, and a TWIC card after 90 days. No criminal history, failed drug tests, or DUI’s in the last ten years. You need to have an excellent driving record. A good knowledge of the Mid-Atlantic geographic area is needed as well as experience with sliding tandems on trailers to adjust weights and ability to operate both manual and automatic transmissions. Houff Transfer is hiring Local Mileage Drivers in Weyers Cave, Richmond, Covington, Winchester, and Williamsburg VA, Baltimore MD, & Concord NC. These drivers usually operate within 250 miles of your home terminal. Local Mileage drivers are home most nights, but must be prepared to spend a night in the sleeper at least once a week. Pay ranges from $54,000-$60,000 a year. Five day work week with shifts Sunday to Thursday, Monday to Friday, and Tuesday to Saturday (depending on location.) Early morning, evening, and night start times are available.

Owner-operators need to have the same qualifications as Regional Mileage company drivers. Houff Transfer issues EZ Pass to pay for tolls, and pays for license and tags for equipment, and pays fuel taxes. Equipment should ideally be 2012 or newer and will need to be brought to our Weyers Cave truck shop to pass a rigorous safety inspection. The Weyers Cave terminal hires Part-time drivers to run weekends, weekdays, or whenever they would like. At our Richmond terminal, we have open trucks available on weekends. We have multiple openings and are looking for the best part-time drivers available who are highly experienced at customer service and have a history of safe and efficient operation of road tractors pulling 53-foot trailers. Part-time drivers can run one day a week or five days a week, whichever days you choose. We have plenty of work. We service the Mid-Atlantic area from North Carolina to New York (no NYC). Part-time drivers normally run within a 200 miles radius of the terminal, and return to the same terminal each day. Part-time drivers who choose overnight runs have the opportunity to make even more money. Drivers will do pickup and delivery, drop and hook, and terminal-to-terminal runs. Drivers operate well-maintained conventional tractors that are serviced weekly at the Weyers Cave terminal.
Qualified drivers will have five+ years of driving experience with 53′ trailer. Drivers should have had some recent driving work within the previous year. Hazmat endorsement is not required for part-time, but is highly preferred. Drivers with hazmat endorsement are paid at a higher mileage rate. No criminal history or DUI’s. You need to have an excellent driving record. A stable work history over the last five years is desirable. Knowledge of the Mid-Atlantic geographic area is needed, as well as experience with sliding tandems to adjust trailer weights, and must be able to operate both manual and automatic transmissions.
